Terms of use
Last updated October 23, 2026
These terms cover your use of Marginalia, made by Gleb Matsko, an independent developer in Serbia working as glebthebread (“we”). They add to Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement, which also applies. By using the app you agree to both.
What Marginalia is
Marginalia offers one philosophy question a day, summaries of what philosophers have argued, and methods for thinking through your own decisions. It is meant for reflection. It is not medical, psychological, legal or financial advice, and the thinking methods are not therapy. If you are in crisis, contact your local emergency number or a crisis line.
We summarize philosophers' views in our own words and cite the works they come from. Survey figures come from the 2020 PhilPapers Survey. We work hard to get these right; if you spot a mistake, please tell us.
Free and membership features
The day's question, with its answers, the philosophers on each side and the idea behind it, is free. Membership unlocks extra features described in the app, such as the full readings of tensions in your answers, your monthly reading, the answers behind your profile, every thinking method and the full archive. What membership includes may change over time; we won't take away the free day's question.
Subscriptions
- Membership is an auto-renewable subscription, billed to your Apple Account at confirmation of purchase. Prices are shown in the app in your local currency.
- The yearly plan may start with a free trial. Unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends, it becomes a paid subscription and you are charged then.
- A subscription renews automatically unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your account is charged for renewal within the 24 hours before the period ends.
- Manage or cancel in your iPhone's Settings › [your name] › Subscriptions. Cancelling stops the next renewal; you keep membership until the end of the period you paid for.
- Refunds are handled by Apple under its policies, at reportaproblem.apple.com.
